On the right tracks with Crossrail!

Posted by Peter Filed Under Uncategorized with No Comments

TechItOut, in partnership with one of our key I.T. service providers, is successfully underway with the supply and installation of network cabling and IP telephony services for DSJV. DSJV are the appointed drilling contractor and civil engineers on the Crossrail Eastern Tunnels package.

Crossrail is the project to build a major new railway link under central London. It is based on an entirely new east-west tunnel with a central section from Paddington to Liverpool Street station. The project was approved in October 2007, and the Crossrail Act received Royal Assent in July 2008. Drilling works will commence in early 2012.

This month has seen TechItOut working on behalf of overseas clients. Early on in May we completed a server equipment and Avaya based relocation for Apto Solutions Inc, based in Georgia, USA. This weekend we send a seven strong team over to France working with one of our partner companies, to complete a desk top and server move for SFI who are relocating in central Paris. We are also having advanced discussions with a prospective client regarding a contract in Madrid this summer; all in all a very satisfying period in our evolution; not to mention the air miles! Who needs a holiday?!

Googleplex, is this the best office in the world?

Posted by Peter Filed Under Offices with No Comments

Google has to have some of the best offices in the world? Come on, who would not want to work at Google after seeing the following pictures.

Think of the Marks & Spencer advert, these are not any offices, these are Google’s offices, and there is no question they are in a league of their own and not a cheap LCD TV in sight!

Best office in the world - Googleplex?

CAT5e or CAT6? That is the question

Posted by Peter Filed Under Uncategorized with No Comments

CAT5E vs CAT6. What does it really mean?

Here is our opinion on choosing the right category of network cable for your office or business..

CAT5e – If you plan on running at 1000 Mbps (1 Gbps)
CAT6 – If you plan on running at 1000 Mbps (1 Gbps) or more.

CAT6 is also recommended if you are in areas that have lots of interference like near power lines, lights, manufacturing equipment, or a long distance 1000 Mbps (Gigabit) run.

It is advised that you run at least Cat5e or Cat6 cable in solid or partiton walls. CAT5e is great for patch cables from the patch panel to the switch or from the computer to the wall outlet. For most applications the CAT5E 350MHz network cables are best. They will run up to 1 Gig and are not as expensive as CAT 6 cables. CAT6 cables are great for “future proofing” your installation. They are rated to carry network speeds above 1000 Mbps (Gigabit). CAT5E 100MHz are rated to only run up to 100Mbps networks but are inexpensive.
The above comments are our opinion, and do not represent a solution for every situation. There are exceptions to these statements and a professional should be consulted prior to making a major network cabling decision. Please visit www.techitout.co.uk and speak to an expert..

Best 5 Offices – How about this for Fit Out design and Build??!!

1. Google, Zurich

Google is one of the biggest companies in the World, and they seem to put a large emphasis on their offices being a fun place to be. Google describes their offices as ‘fun and inspiring’ and their employees clearly agree with them.
The offices boast a slide for employees, an aquarium for them to relax, a library, games room and a restaurant providing employees with free breakfast, lunch and dinner. And yes, I did say free.
Google’s engineers work in teams of three or four, and each team has their own office and bean bag meeting room, pictured above.

2. Red Bull

Red Bull’s office in London is an amazing place to work, packed with modern design and fun. The main table in the meeting room doubles as a large table-tennis table, they have a floating stair case, a slide to rival Google’s as well as an ultra modern bar and restaurant. Very, very nice.

3. TBWA Offices

TBWA Offices
TBWA are a marketing and advertising agency, most famous for their work with Apple and Adidas. Their offices were converted from an amusement complex and it’s full of fun, interesting and particularly wacky features. They’ve focused on bringing the tranquillity of outside spaces into the office and the results look amazing, I particularly like the grassy area in the office!

4. Pixar Offices

Pixar’s offices are all about relaxation and being able to be creative. I love the row of what look like garden sheds – each one is actually an office. The lighting, decoration and furniture are all chosen to keep employees relaxed and creative. I want to work for Pixar!

5. The Mindlab Offices

The Mindlab is a meeting facility based in the Ministry of Economic and Business Affairs in Copenhagen, Denamark.

The mindlab features a huge, egg-shaped meeting room inside of which all the walls, floors and ceiling are whiteboards, meaning you can write on any surface in the room. Perfect for meetings and great for creativity, I want one in my house, let alone my office!

Although it’s not necessarily somewhere I’d want to work (whereas the other four I’d chop my brother’s hand off to get in), it had to be included in the list for three reasons.

1.I want one.
2.It’s such a cool idea.
3.The government made it. Not Google, not Red Bull, the government. Bet there’s nothing like this in any of the UK’s government buildings.

Clean computers and phones – a must for every organisation

Posted by Peter Filed Under Uncategorized with No Comments

Nowadays, we live in a disposable world. If an item is not at its best, we often throw it away and buy an new gadget. If a wall is dirty we paint it.. (on the other hand we don’t clean our own cars and vans anymore, we pay for a ‘hand car wash’ )!

What has happened to giving something a good old fashioned clean??

Well at TechItOut we love to keep your I.T. equipment and phones clean.. clinically clean!

There is oodles of research to show that clean IT performs better, it also uses less power and reduces the chances of your PC or server malfunctioning due to overheating.

The money saved in power consumption will often outweigh the small cost of having your equipment cleaned twice a year, and it’s much more hygenic and pleasant to sit in front of too..
